The children were thrilled when police officer, Constable Jensen visited our class on Tuesday Oct. 28th to talk about his role as a police officer, road safety, and Halloween safety. The children had many questions for Constable Jensen and many stories to tell as well!

Word Rings!
On Monday, October 27, your child will be bringing home a ring of words or a "word ring" in with his/her home reading bag. Please review these 10 sight words on a nightly basis until your child knows all the words. Please don't have your child try to sound them out as these words are to be learned by sight. If your child already knows these words you can have your child practice spelling
them if you wish. Please keep the word ring in the ziplock bag so it doesn't get lost and so I can add more words to the ring every few weeks. Thank-you!

Our Bad to the Bone Silly Skeletons!
With Halloween now on the horizon the children made skeletons out of q-tips. They had fun deciding how to position their legs and arms to make them 'dance!'
Parent Update re. Volunteers and Halloween!
There is now a parent bulletin board up in our classroom. Parents may sign up to help with home reading or to volunteer in the classroom on specific Wednesdays or Thursdays. Thank you in advance for your help!
Halloween News:
On the afternoon of Thursday, October 30th, we will be having a small Halloween celebration with a special snack time instead of having it on Halloween Friday as we have gym and buddy reading that afternoon. I am asking parents to look at the "goodie" sign-up sheet on the bulletin board in the classroom when dropping off your child to see if there's anything you wish to send for October 30th. Thanks so much for your help!
On Halloween Friday, it is Orange and Black Day at Queensbury. Your child is encouraged to dress up in orange and black if they wish to do so.

Our Home Reading Program Begins Thursday!
Your child will be bringing home a home reading book Thursday evening with an accompanying letter to explain the process. The students will get to choose a treasure from our class treasure box every time they have read 20 books through our program. I am asking if children (with the help and permission of their parents) can look to see if they have any inexpensive toy items at home that they do not want anymore that are smaller than the size of a fist to donate to our treasure box. The aim is to have a well-stocked treasure box which will provide a fun external reward for the children's dedication to the reading program. Thank you all for your support!

Buddy Reading!
The children were very excited and thrilled to have 'buddy reading' with Ms. Hoodspith's grade 3's and 4's on Friday afternoon. There are actually a number of siblings who will have the opportunity to be together in our classroom once a week during our 'buddy' reading time!
